Introducing Foods into Your Babe’s Diet

There’s so much magic in rediscovering life with your little one. Opening them up to the limitless experiences this world has to offer and what it means to live a life of bliss, balance, health and full of love. Every sensation, every experience is open for them—all you need to do as parents is guide them.

Noa is growing so much, so fast, but I feel insanely honored every day to be her mama. I’ve gotten so many questions about how I’ve been introducing real foods into her diet and wanted to share my experience and has worked best for us. More than anything, this is a period of play and experimentation. It’s connecting with your little one and allowing him or her to be CURIOUS. There’s a saying that goes, “Food before one is just for fun.” This stage is all about experimenting together and figuring out what works.

Our little miss Noa started with solids at 6 ½ months and I knew she was ready because she started to be very curious about food. She would reach for plates of whatever food was around her and was really interested in whatever I was eating. So much so that she would actually try to grab food from my mouth. All I’ve done is facilitate this initial curiosity. She still gets most of her nutrients and vitamins from breast milk and we still breastfeed 6 times a day, every 3 hours. She only tries food in-between when she’s awake and full of energy.

Instead of dictating what she does or doesn’t eat, I’ve been introducing her to a LOT of ingredients at a time. All of which are clean and organic - a whole lot of fruits and veggies, and more recently, organic nut butter! She eats everything; she’s definitely not a picky eater. What can I say? She gets it from her mama.

Some other tools & tricks that have worked for little Noa during this curious + playful phase:

Pureed food is the BEST way to get in a lot of nutrients + superfoods (of course!) - I’ve introduced both Green Dream and Berry Bliss to Noa, especially Berry Bliss because of all the vitamin C

This is a phase to experiment with a variety of spices, sweet flavors (fruit), salt flavors (a little bit of sea salt) and textures

Combine foods + ingredients in different ways, especially if they seem initially confused about it - Noa was initially not interested in kale by itself but tried it in smoothies and she’s liked it!

When trying a unique and potent ingredient (i.e. fennel) you can offset the taste with potato, banana, or pear

One major tool we’ve found to work is introducing allergy foods early on in her diets Did you know that most Israelis have no peanut allergy? One cause of this has been said from introducing little babes to peanut early on. Bamba is a peanut-butter puffed snack and is in almost every Israeli home (including ours) and everyone enjoys them from kids to adults! They have a great texture for infants and it helps babies to familiarize with the flavor profile and sensations of peanuts. One study has shown that babes introduced to allergic foods (primarily peanuts) are less likely to develop this allergy later on in life.

We’ve also been relying on a sample of baby foods and products to help ease this transition and make it a safe and enjoyable experience.

Munchkin Fresh Food Feeder: So great for fruits + veggies. We add frozen fruit to it which has also helped with teething.

Happy Baby Organics Puffs: These are so great for snacking and have so many different flavors. They melt in her mouth, are sourced from clean ingredients, full of vitamins, and encourages self-feeding.

Baby Mum-Mums Rice Crackers: Rice biscuits created especially for teething and are entirely gluten-free and non-GMO certified. The best part is that they melt in her mouth easily and are easy to hold.

Square Baby Food: Personalized puréed baby food with real, whole ingredients. They help customize a food plan based on your baby’s age, diet restrictions and preferences. Each blend incorporates a little’s ones recommended servings of fruit, veggies, proteins and grains. Noa loves them!

Yumi: These baby foods are created for each stage of food introduction + development. They begin with single ingredient puréed blends, then move to soups with 2 ingredients and finally, multi-ingredient chia or quinoa puddings. All their blends are organic, gluten-free, low in sugar and nutrient-dense—just the way mama eats!

Once Upon A Farm: Super clean and super simple organic baby food that offer a TON of flavors and varieties. Noa loves, loves, loves the applesauce blend. These are so easy to take on-the-go and I don’t have to worry if she’s still getting the right nutrients and vitamins into her little body.

If you’re curious about what to feed your baby from the foods that already exist in your kitchen. Here’s the food that Noa has gravitated more toward and what has worked best for her. But everyone is different and what works for my babe might not work for yours. Just like us!

Fruits: Asian pear (her first food), berries, banana, mango (frozen from Trader Joe’s)

Veggies: Carrot (to chew on), avocado (great finger food), sweet potatoes, cucumber

Combos: Whole grain cereal mixed with bone broth (her favorite) and smoothies

Right now, we’re staying away from honey until she turns one due to a risk of botulism. You can bet that she’ll be trying organic raw honey on her first birthday!

It’s been such a joy to watch Noa try out different foods and find the magic behind taste. I love creating recipes for her and can’t wait for the many more we’ll be trying.

Simple Purée Recipe

1 pear

Handful of peas

Handful of spinach

¼ tsp of Green Dream Superfood + Protein Blend

Combine and blend in a baby food processor and serve! YUM!

Hi Sophie,

Thank you for sharing your baby food tips! I’m just starting this journey with my 5mos old Lucia. Do you do any yoga or stretches/exercises with Noa? I have a few moves but would love more ideas!

Cutting Cords Energetically to Align with Your Highest Self

We’re spiritual beings. We share energy on a daily basis with humans, places and things. Most of the time they bring in positivity, joy and love into our lives but there are times when they create low vibrational energy. By sharing energy we create attachments or energy cords to relationships and things that either serve our highest good or block our growth. Like a mother’s bond to a child or a passionate bond to a lover, energy cords are made up of mutual sharing, trust and love. As we are always in a state of growth, bonds have the potential to shift or transform as time comes and goes. It’s our CHOICE to decide when energy shared enhances your life or restricts it. Then you can decide how to move forward from there.

There are certain people and things you effortlessly align with and keep coming home to over and over and over again. Trust their love for you. Trust the joy they bring you. Anyone who you can pick up exactly where you left off and get DEEP into it—those are your people. Hold them close.

Decide now to choose YOU. Your joy and happiness. Nobody or nothing can rob you of your joy. Did you know that? If you feel the energy cord inhibiting you from living a life you’re meant to experience, let go. Create more space. More music. More baths. More nature. More breaths. More fun. More nourishment. Cut cords energetically for more love and gratitude to seep in.

What are some signs of unwanted energy cords?

Obsessive thoughts or behaviors around a person or thing

Negative self-talk or feelings with that relationship

Feeling drained with a person or a thing

You don’t feel like your true self around that person or with that thing

You hold onto to the hurt or pain in a low vibrational way

The relationship makes you physically anxious, tired or sick

The same way we can energetically attach to people, places or things, we can also physically attach. It’s our choice and birthright to cut any forms of an unhealthy attachment. Through connecting to your intuition and maintaining nourishing self-care rituals and practices you’ll recognize where energy cords are strengthening or depleting you.

The best thing you can do is let go of feeding that person, place, trauma or hurt your energy through thought or emotion. Forgive them, forgive yourself and LET GO.

A ritual for energetic cord-cutting

Find a quiet place and light some candles then clear away negative energy with Palo Santo (available here). Close your eyes and focus on your breathing. Then perform this visualization exercise:

Picture a thick cord coming from the center of your body, traveling deep into the earth and tying you safely to the core. Grounding you and protecting you.

Now imagine the person, place or thing you wish to let go.

Visualize a physical cord with this relationship and imagine cutting it. Tell this person, place or thing that you love them and are grateful for them but will no longer be tied to them.

Remove the cords.

Visualize the cord you tied to the earth coming back to your center.

Bring your awareness back to reality and move your body (try a quick yoga flow or delicious stretch).

Finish by lighting some Sweet Grass (available here) and bring in new, vibrant positive energy into your home and the energy within.

Magical Moon Talk: Cancer New Moon & Solar Eclipse

We are welcoming in a New Moon in the house of nurturing Cancer but also a powerful Solar Eclipse with it. Even if you’re not able to witness it, this energy can be felt worldwide. It’s our job to understand and know how to tap into this energy and use it to make powerful transformations during the season ahead.

Eclipses have the ability to influence the next 6 months and act as a pivotal time of change. Solar Eclipses only happen when there is a New Moon and hold a strong sense of new beginnings. As this one is focused in Cancer we’ll draw attention to aspects that make up our “home” and sense of being whether it’s our personal relationships, feminine spirit, comfort, stability, and emotions.

Because of this Solar Eclipse coupled with the Cancer New Moon you can expect emotions to be opened wide and deeply felt throughout the day. Allow some time to yourself and you travel through these emotions. Hold yourself and acknowledge all that you’re feeling. This is a time for calling forth your deepest desires and true needs from a place of intuition Cancer encourages. Listen to your heart and gut feelings for guidance during this astrological event. You never know what could be opened up for you.

“TOTAL Solar Eclipse NEW MOON in Cancer in the sign of the Great Mother, nurtures the child within and offers us a refuge, a home within ourselves, where we can return to our place of Origin. This is the energy we are spiraling in with this Cancer Eclipse. Sensitivities are opened, our tender places are feeling tender, and the many facets our inner child can be more readily accessed, witnessed and integrated. Because of other aspects occurring including Mercury which is about to go retrograde 7/7, we must bring mindfulness to how we are expressing ourselves. With awareness of this, we can rise to a more mature response. Our inner Mother Elder Wise One can help guide the child within through all these changes. And as every Mother knows, play is the most creative fun way to engage with children and with Life. So amidst it all, let’s remember to yield to that Lightness of Being expanding within us and allow humor to lift us as we journey home to ourselves. May this beautiful MOTHER Energy continue to rise and awaken within each and every one of us, to help us to have more compassion for ourselves and for each other.” - MYSTIC MAMA

Channel all this magical energy through a vibrant yoga flow to help get out of your head and back into your back. I shared a 15 min. HITT Vinyasa Yoga Flow now up on my YouTube channel.

Grab a Magical Moon Satchel or “intuition kit” to help uplift your energy today and every day.

Happy New Moon and Solar Eclipse!

My Clean and Green Haircare Routine

If you know me you know I don’t spend a lot of time on my hair. Whatever I can do to make styling my hair simple, eco-friendly and SAFE then I’m all in. When life is FULL with a business to run and an almost 1-year-old demanding my attention, any care for and styling of my hair is a low priority. I depend on products I trust 100% to keep me looking and feeling my best.

I’ve decided to share my go-to haircare routine for when I have a photo shoot, commercial or event in the hopes to help you find products that you can love and feel so good using!

Seed Phytonutrients hair, face and body products are completely sustainable and made with organic seed oils, the perfect solution for clean beauty that actually works! I love their mission to protect organic farmers and seeds from over-commercialization while promoting natural beauty and healthy living. Living sustainably doesn’t just only mean recycling or minimizing your waste (although, yes!) but also promoting and supporting brands that are fighting to protect Mama Gaia and all her wonders.

My Go-To Styling Routine

When I know I have an upcoming shoot or event I give my hair a bit more extra love and attention than the top knot bun I usually do. I shower with the Seed Phytonutrient’s Anti-Frizz Shampoo and Conditioner made with organic jojoba seed oil rich in vitamins and minerals that nourish and strengthen the hair. My hair always feels so soft and as soon as I’m done using the bottle I can compost it!

If I’m between events, I love to use Seed Phytonutrient’s Hair and Body Oil for an on-the-go frizz touch up. It’s so light and clean! All you do is apply a tiny amount to the place that needs attention and gently massage in. Then you’re ready to go!

I usually switch off between having the Glamsquad come to my home and style my hair. I love this team because I can stay home and work or be with Noa while I’m getting my hair done. Plus, they use all my products like Seed Phytonutrient’s Anti-Frizz Cream. If I don’t use Glamsquad then I’ll get a blowout and all the Seed products actually keep my blowouts longer, which is amazing!

Don’t Be Afraid to Act Fucking Nice

As I’m out in the world exploring with my kiddos whether it’s on a run in the jogging stroller, walking around the neighborhood to a local ice cream shop or traveling on an airplane with all three littles, time and time again the thing that can INSTANTLY transform my meh into a YEH is kindness from a stranger.

Picture this: three hours into a challenging flight with both boys and baby Noa. My kids and I had just eaten an overly expensive, less-than-average lunch at the airport before boarding, then both boys proclaim they’re “starving” (great, another overly expensive, less-than-average purchase option on flight), Noa is WIDE awake due to her long lunch/airport nap and already OVER IT from a previous flight, and there’s an asshole in the seat in front of me who makes snide comments or shakes his head in disgust every time we move a muscle or Noa makes a sound. I pace the airplane like a psycho praying that somehow Noa will become sleepy during this process, and on my 400th lap up and down the plane, a woman mouths to me,

“You’re a great mom.”

My entire face lit up. I smiled from ear to ear and tears formed in my eyes as I continued my lap to the way back (to bug the flight attendants because there’s literally nowhere to go on a flight with a baby that isn't in someone's way) of the plane.

Now, I’m empowered. I have 2 hours left until LAX and I can DO THIS. Fuck that dude with his negativity in front of me! I’m a great mom! It can’t be a coincidence that 12 seconds later Noa fell asleep in the carrier. I’m sure my energy relaxed her, too!

Once I was on a jog with Noa in the jogging stroller and had Lucca, our pup, too and I only had 20 minutes to get in this tiny bit of exercise before showering and going to speak on a panel. This was it. I had to pump up my energy or else I would not be active that day. As I was jogging along, every step felt next to impossible. While running through one of my fave neighborhoods to jog in, a man is crossing the street and looks at me (I’m expecting an annoying catcall) and says, “Keep going, mama!” It motivated me tenfold. I felt so strong! I told myself, “I can do this, it’s just a few more minutes of effort and I’ll feel so good later!” After a few blocks, I felt my energy drop again and my desire to walk/give up. Someone yelled out of their bedroom upstairs from a beautiful home, “You’re doing great!” Once again, I felt a surge of energy and just what I needed to carry me home. That’s it. TWO. MEASLY. SENTENCES. That transformed my day.

So, my point is this. BE FUCKING NICE. The concept we learned in elementary school, “don’t say anything if you don’t have anything nice to say,” has never been truer than it is right now. In this moment. In this current world. How can your words or actions affect others? You have NO idea unless you give it a try.

How to Give Yourself the Space as a Couple to Decompress and Drop In

As parents and entrepreneurs, Adi and I get SO caught up in everything else in life from our children to our work to our friends and everything else we forget where it all began - with us. It’s so important for us to take time away from everything in life and be in it - even if that means having to actually fly on a plane and get the F away from LA and all that we know. But it’s so good, friends. It's so good to be in it with the person you love and reconnect to all you cherish together.

At the end of last month, Adi and I escaped to Sunrise Springs Spa Resort in Santa Fe, New Mexico for a weekend and the vortex was so powerful. The second I got there I felt so nurtured and released so much. The facilities, excursions, and activities gave us a weekend to truly decompress with my partner for life.

It took lots of years of being off balance, unconnected and working through a ton of shit before we as a couple could figure out this way to go off the grid for a day, a night, or a weekend and reconnect to one another. This is a bit of what we did to give you an idea.

Our weekend getaway at Sunrise Springs Spa Resort

When we arrived we both felt completely ungrounded and unsettled from all that we were leaving in our FULL as-can-be lives so we took that first day to decompress and create space for softening. That buffer time is essential to any kind of deep reconnection whether with your partner, parent or spouse.

We spent the first day relaxing and reading on the dock by the water - literally HOURS of reading. Which I haven’t done in such a long time. What a gift it was just to read; so pure, so simple. After hours of reading and a glorious nap we took a soak in their natural mineral spring and dove deeper in the vortex of nature.

By the end of day two, we were so IN it that I was offline for a full day! We went to a yoga class which we haven’t done together since before Noa was born. We lay under the stars. We took lots of naps and ate all the food. We both got CBD massages and had a 90 min. hypnotherapy session where we had the most incredible past-life regression together. We found ourselves several times in past lives and found all the gifts we have brought to our children - such a heart-opening experience. I opened up to it entirely and felt so much appreciation and gratitude for the life Adi and I have created.

We created this magic

I am so appreciative of how open-minded Adi was to the whole weekend. It was very much a spiritually-curated weekend including a healing session with a Shaman which was perfect for me and Adi (surprisingly) was all in.

This time together is so sacred. It reminds us of the magic we have created including our three little love beings full of pure light and wonder. So little we give this time to ourselves. We always have people over or go on double dates or have family events and Sunrise Springs gave us a weekend to pause and remember where it all began.

By Saturday night we were so filled up and ready to see our babies, we left SUPER early Sunday morning. Honest, that’s all we could ever want out of a weekend getaway - the chance to reconnect, recharge and come back excited and ready to embrace our full lives.

What are some of your favorite ways to recharge and drop in? Let me know in the comments below and share with me on Facebook using #PhilosophieLove.
