How to Support Yourself as a Mama

This is for our mamas. As a mama-founded and mama-run company we know a thing or two about the beautiful and not so beautiful moments of motherhood. We choose to celebrate it all. We choose to celebrate YOU and the choice you’re taking in being more present to your whole-being, to your joy, freedom, bliss and balance just by being part of our Philosophie family.


Motherhood is a powerful journey. It can be so heavy at times, but we wouldn’t change it for a single second. Every mom out there is simply trying to do the best she can for her children.


One question that we see a lot here in the community is, “How do you raise happy, healthy and independent kids?”


You raise happy, healthy and independent kids if you are as well. If mama’s happy, kids are happy. Our kids love to echo everything we do, from the good to the bad and everything in between. From making and loving superfood smoothies as much as we do to random dance parties. It helps us to be better humans, and we can learn so many lessons from them.


It’s never an easy journey and sometimes it feels as if the house has literally flipped upside but we’re sharing some of our favorite ways to support yourself as a mama. You matter above all else.

CHECK IN ON YOUR FEELINGS

Check in on your own needs. Ask yourself, “What do I need at this moment to feel most aligned with myself?” If you find yourself overwhelmed, stressed or burnt out, you need to address it. Being our best selves and being the best mama we can is honoring YOU and your needs. In order to be the best mama you can be, you need to take priority. The amount of love you give yourself and family will be reflected in your kiddos. They’ll give all that love right back.


KEEP THE FOOD REAL

Food is energy! I love making my kids yummy and nutritious meals loaded with Philosophie superfoods. Substituting a lot of traditional ingredients for healthier options is an easy parenting trick so that our kids stay healthy but still get to enjoy their favorite meals. They won’t even know the difference! It’s all about eating meals with nutrient-dense, whole foods instead of limiting your options.

CREATE MOMENTS OF SELF-CARE

Mamas, self-care is more than just a shower and errands! Take a few minutes to yourself each day to check in and care for your mind, soul and body. Whether it’s 2 minutes of deep, belly breaths or a face mask. We like to use Chrysalis Water, an acid-balancing witch hazel loaded with natural fragrant oils, to wake up the body and help us feel refreshed.


ASK FOR HELP, IN SMALL AND BIG WAYS

It’s knowing that in order to succeed in life you have to delegate and let others step in and pick up the reins when you can’t. It’s knowing that you’re human and you’ll never be perfect but as long as you put in the work, do the research and SHOW UP then life is saner and 100x more enjoyable.

LOVE YOUR BODY WITH MOVEMENT

Do everything from a place of love—which means working out because you love the movement of your body, or eating because food tastes good. The moment you do something because someone says “it’s good for you” is the moment that it loses some of its power.

EMBRACE WHO YOU REALLY ARE

Once we overcome the fear of being incredibly vulnerable and uncomfortable, we have the capacity to truly grow. By stripping down to our truest selves and using products that bring out your natural core, we allow others to see us for who we really are, and they, in turn, are so much more likely to share with us their true selves, ultimately allowing for greater trust and compassion.
