We’re enjoying the slow transition over here at Philosophie HQ, while it never gets all that cool + crisp over in LA I’m all about the fall fruits + veggies! Philosophie Babe, Marissa Cohen made this amazing Green Dream Fig Vanilla Smoothie and I’m obsessed with it! So, so good!
Happy fall, babes! As the weather changes, I like to mix up the produce I add to my smoothies. While pineapple and mango make for delicious tropical shakes, using stone fruits, pears, and even root vegetables like pumpkin is a great way to mix up your smoothies for the fall. Try exploring your farmer’s market to see what’s local to you and have fun experimenting with all different fruits and vegetables! At Philosophie, we’re encouraged to eat the rainbow and include as much variety as possible. We’re all about what you add into your diet, not what you take away. Eating seasonally is the perfect way to ensure that you’re getting an array of nutrients for your bodies and flavors for your taste buds.
At my local farmer’s market, I found the most delicious fresh, juicy figs. I kid-you-not when I say I ate a whole pint as I shopped around. Figs have an incredibly sweet, almost caramel-like taste. Better yet, they’re loaded with fiber to support healthy digestion. Figs pair beautifully with vanilla and cinnamon in this smoothie for sweetness, and the almond butter, coconut butter, and sea salt bring balance and incredible creaminess to this smoothie. (Pro tip: dip figs straight into the almond butter jar and drizzle with Cacao Bee Honey. You can thank me later.) I also included extra maca, which is already in the Green Dream Superfood + Protein Blend. This is optional, but maca is excellent for increasing energy and balancing hormones, and the “malty” flavor compliments the figs!
Give this recipe a try and adapt it to your liking.
1 cup of almond or coconut milk
4 figs (fresh or frozen)
2 large handfuls of baby spinach
1 tablespoon of raw almond butter
1 tablespoon of Coconut Dream Coconut Butter
1 heaping tablespoon of Green Dream Superfood + Protein Blend
½ teaspoon of cinnamon
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon maca powder
A pinch of pink sea salt
OPTIONAL: a handful of ice to make it thicker and cooler
Throw everything in a high-powered blender and blend until smooth. Sip, and smile!
