This tonic is absolutely incredible. Any kind of tea beverage+Philosophie Honey is a match made in heaven. Mixed with the antioxidant power of Berry Bliss and goji berries+medicinal herbs, this tonic will give you lasting energy and vitality. When I drink a cup of black coffee, I feel shaky and anxious. When I drink this, I feel grounded, strengthened, and energized in a calm way.
The Berry Bliss powder adds a really delicious tartness that pairs really well with the cinnamon. Cinnamon is a natural blood sugar stabilizer, so it balances out the natural sugar in the Berry Bee Honey. Raw honey is a great source of immunity boosting as well as antimicrobial properties, and is also amazing for digestion!! The cloves have such a sweet and spicy flavor that I absolutely love in this drink!
The first tonic herb that we are using is ashwagandha, which is a super healing adaptogenic herb. It’s used in Ayurvedic medicine mainly for lowering cortisol (aka the stress hormone) and balancing the thyroid (aka balancing hormones). It also is very strengthening for the immune system, and has been used traditionally to strengthen the immune system after sickness. It’s ability to lower cortisol promotes a calming effect that you will actually feel after drinking this. The other magical medicinal mushroom that I used is He Shou Wu. He Shou Wu is an herb with a long history of uses. It is known for it’s anti-aging and beauty rejuvenation properties. It’s even said to restore gray hair to its original color! He Shou Wu is a tonic for the endocrine glands; it improves health, stamina and resistance to disease. It’s incredible for it’s anti-aging benefits!! It also adds a layer of earthy flavor that really enhances the drink. He Shou Wu also pairs amazingly with cacao!! My favorite brand for tonics and herbs is Sunpotion. It may seem a little pricey, but the quality is superior to other brands and definitely worth the price in my opinion. Also, you only need a teaspoon at a time. Just like with Philosophie Superfoods, a little goes a long way and the bottle lasts for months.
Serves 1-2
Gather This:
- 2 Cinnamon Sticks
- 3-4 Cardamom Pods
- 1 tablespoon Dried Goji Berries
- 1 tablespoon Berry Bee Honey
- 1 tsp Ashwagandha powder
- 1 tsp He Shou Wu powder
- 1 tsp Berry Bliss
Do This:
- Bring 3 cups of water to a boil in a small pot. Remove from heat. Add cinnamon sticks, cardamom pods, and goji berries
- Steep for 10-15 minutes with the lid on
- Pour into a blender. Add remaining ingredients, along with the goji berries from the steeping liquid. Blend until combined
- Feel free to strain your tonic for a smoother consistency
- Enjoy at room temp or over ice!
