The approaching fall season has us all back to the hustle and grind. We’re stepping into a rhythm with baby Noa (though don’t get me started on her sleep schedule!) and the boys are back at school.
So often, people ask how I’m able to handle life as a conscious mama and run my own business, attend conferences, work as a social influencer, and practice healthy living—babes, it’s a lot! It ultimately comes down to remaining present. I embrace every moment as it comes. In total times of stress, I stop everything and S L O W down.
As a mom, I can’t do everything I want to do. I have to cancel dinner meetings all the time because I’m just too tired or one of the kids is freaking out or sick or a babysitter cancels last minute. I have to say no to a lot of opportunities which is frustrating and challenging. But, it can also be freeing an rewarding.
I believe that feeling good (feeling nourished, healthy, vibrant, and self-empowered) is what fuels us to work to be better people—better mothers, wives, sisters, friends, and active contributors to our world.
As I continue to balance motherhood and life as an entrepreneur here are tricks I’ve relied on to get me through the week. I hope they help you too!
Don't let business take over your personal life completely. It’s so important to separate your work life from your personal life. This was the hardest thing to control early on in my career. When everything first started with Philosophie, I wanted to devote myself completely to the business. Now, I devote time to my kiddos and family time. I work around THEIR schedule. Yet, sometime I’ll have deadlines or a crisis, but most of the time if my boys are home then I’m present with them. I run my business out of my home now so I’m able to easily adapt to “mom mode.”
Outsource "mom" roles so you can reserve your own resources. Moms, you don’t have to do everything yourself! I’m constantly using resources around me from a close network of friends and family I can ask to watch the kids and sources like Kango Car + Babysitting Service (use
the code “Sophie20” for $20 off a ride) to make things easier. I wouldn’t be where I am today with my amazing supportive system of rockstar humans.
Make time in the day, every day, for self-care and nourishment. I will never stop preaching this. Devote at least 10 minutes whether in the morning before the kids wake up or at the end of the day when they’re all asleep all to you. Drink a cup of soothing tea, read, journal or meditate. Check in with yourself and your body. What do you need at this moment? Fuel yourself inside and out with yummy workouts + Philosophie superfoods, so you can live through it all effortlessly.
Set your own boundaries. You are NOT a victim of time. I talk to so many mamas who are controlled by everything and anyone in your life. Let me tell you, you can control what happens in your life. You have the power to say “no” if something no longer serves you. It’s all in what you feel will move your life forward. There is no one and no thing pressuring you. I don’t think it’s said enough and it’s so very important.
You absolutely must give yourself as much self-love as you need without a grain of guilt. Until you are filled UP, you can not give fully to your little loves, friends, husbands, and others in your life. Take long baths when the kids are asleep, drink that glass of wine, book that massage, go out with your best friend. This is okay AND necessary in order to truly be present with your babes.
