Tips For Working Moms

The approaching fall season has us all back to the hustle and grind. We’re stepping into a rhythm with baby Noa (though don’t get me started on her sleep schedule!) and the boys are back at school.

So often, people ask how I’m able to handle life as a conscious mama and run my own business, attend conferences, work as a social influencer, and practice healthy living—babes, it’s a lot! It ultimately comes down to remaining present. I embrace every moment as it comes. In total times of stress, I stop everything and S L O W down.

As a mom, I can’t do everything I want to do. I have to cancel dinner meetings all the time because I’m just too tired or one of the kids is freaking out or sick or a babysitter cancels last minute. I have to say no to a lot of opportunities which is frustrating and challenging. But, it can also be freeing an rewarding.

I believe that feeling good (feeling nourished, healthy, vibrant, and self-empowered) is what fuels us to work to be better people—better mothers, wives, sisters, friends, and active contributors to our world.

As I continue to balance motherhood and life as an entrepreneur here are tricks I’ve relied on to get me through the week. I hope they help you too!

Don't let business take over your personal life completely. It’s so important to separate your work life from your personal life. This was the hardest thing to control early on in my career. When everything first started with Philosophie, I wanted to devote myself completely to the business. Now, I devote time to my kiddos and family time. I work around THEIR schedule. Yet, sometime I’ll have deadlines or a crisis, but most of the time if my boys are home then I’m present with them. I run my business out of my home now so I’m able to easily adapt to “mom mode.”

Outsource "mom" roles so you can reserve your own resources. Moms, you don’t have to do everything yourself! I’m constantly using resources around me from a close network of friends and family I can ask to watch the kids and sources like Kango Car + Babysitting Service (use

the code “Sophie20” for $20 off a ride) to make things easier. I wouldn’t be where I am today with my amazing supportive system of rockstar humans.

Make time in the day, every day, for self-care and nourishment. I will never stop preaching this. Devote at least 10 minutes whether in the morning before the kids wake up or at the end of the day when they’re all asleep all to you. Drink a cup of soothing tea, read, journal or meditate. Check in with yourself and your body. What do you need at this moment? Fuel yourself inside and out with yummy workouts + Philosophie superfoods, so you can live through it all effortlessly.

Set your own boundaries. You are NOT a victim of time. I talk to so many mamas who are controlled by everything and anyone in your life. Let me tell you, you can control what happens in your life. You have the power to say “no” if something no longer serves you. It’s all in what you feel will move your life forward. There is no one and no thing pressuring you. I don’t think it’s said enough and it’s so very important.

You absolutely must give yourself as much self-love as you need without a grain of guilt. Until you are filled UP, you can not give fully to your little loves, friends, husbands, and others in your life. Take long baths when the kids are asleep, drink that glass of wine, book that massage, go out with your best friend. This is okay AND necessary in order to truly be present with your babes.

Eco-Friendly Grocery Shopping Tips

Across the planet, we are waking up to systems in place that no longer serve us as a collective; we are pulling many things up from the darkness into light. The state of our Mother Earth has always been present and there are MANY doing all they can to fight climate change and spread more sustainable and eco-friendly practices, but more are joining the cause.

We can become part of the change by using more reusable products, shopping with reusable bags and totes, refusing bags and utensils if you order takeout, buying more sustainable products in your home to clean up messes, and become more mindful on your food consumption.  At Philosophie we're on a mission to make more conscientious choices so we can create the best environment for our little ones and the Philosophie community. The goal is to make lots of little daily changes to be more eco-conscious and choose goods, products and food with more intention.

Why do we run a sustainable wellness brand?

We don’t need to be the first to tell you that climate change is real and scary. It’s so important now more than ever to be part of the solution and not the problem. We want a world that our children’s children can grow up in and experience the beauty of this planet.

As the food we eat plays such a large role in shaping how we use and treat our planet, it’s essential that we make environmentally conscious choices while gathering all the ingredients for our yummy recipes. We make it a point to research who and where we source all our ingredients for all our superfood blends and infusions

This is also important when it comes to your food waste within your own home. Mamas, I know how challenging it is to get your kiddos to eat everything on their plates. In our own homes, we are always looking for new and fun ways to use leftovers which often look like using leftover fruits and veggies in smoothies, soups or bowls. When you make your leftovers into an entirely new meal it makes it a new experience for the whole family to enjoy!

Here are our top tips for shopping sustainable while shopping for nutrient-dense foods:

Always ask questions about your food. What ingredients are used and where do these ingredients come from? Are they sustainably grown and harvested? This is so SO important, especially for ingredients like palm oil (which is oftentimes unsustainably harvested, harming natural ecosystems and beautiful creatures like orangutans).

BYOB (bring your own bag) - including produce bags! While many stores have completely banned plastic bags or charge extra for them, produce bags remain a staple. You can find reusable produce bags made of nylon or cotton.

Shop the Farmer’s Market. By hitting up your local Farmer’s Market, you have access to an abundance of amazing fruits, veggies, seeds, and nuts AND you can learn exactly where and how they were grown. Local, organic produce has a much smaller carbon footprint than larger grocery chains that ship theirs from far distances. And make sure to bring your reusable totes wherever you go!

Shop in season. Food can travel a long way to make it to your local grocery store and into your home. To help the environment, try shopping for produce that’s in season and it often saves you money too!

Buy in bulk. Go to grocery stores that offer grains, nuts, etc. in bulk and bring your own jars. It’s so cute to see them around your home, too! Turn to reusable products like our Philosophie Smoothie Jars. I’ll be going reusable with all of baby girl’s diapers and I’ve cut out sack lunches/ziplock bags for the boys.

Practices in place

A part of nourishing ourselves is respecting and protecting this beautiful planet that we call home, we feel it’s SO important to ensure that the Philosophie products also support the environment. All of our superfood + protein blends come in 100% biodegradable kraft paper, created with long, unbleached fibers from maritime pine that require minimal chemical processing and keep the wood’s gorgeous natural color.

The paper itself actually decomposes naturally, just like the leaves of a tree, and will return to its original state of cellulose fibers in several weeks—completely safe for the environment! And while these bags are green and can be put back into the earth, their fibers are super strong so they can be reused again and again! All our jars of supercharged raw honey and our superfood coconut butter come in reusable glass jars.

Mental Health Check-In + Tools for Healing

Mental health is just as important as physical health. You NEVER KNOW who is struggling and it’s our job as humans to show up with compassion, with love and support, and with understanding. You are not alone. You are not meant to do life alone and no matter what your home life, work-life or romantic life looks like there are people out there that support you.

Let’s be remembered as kind, good humans who did our best, and spread love, okay?

We created this community and our superfood blends to help you live a life of vibrancy and abundance. A major tool we use to experience the beauty of life is through our food. Food has the power to heal. It is so much more than survival. It is nourishment. It grounds you. It brings you back into your body and shows you how bountiful our beautiful home is here on Earth.

Well-being is more than the high vibrational food we eat. It’s mental health, physical wellness, and emotional stability. There are little daily habits you can incorporate into your routine to help you check in on your mental well-being.

You are never too much or not enough. It’s okay to take a break and rest. Above all, it’s okay to ask for help. We love you!

We’re sharing some of our favorite tools to check in on your mental health and whole being.

With all that’s going on in the world having a breathwork practice to still the mind and ease your stress is absolutely imperative. We rely on our bodies and our breath to keep us grounded and centered. The moments when you go really IN are when you focus on what’s going on underneath the surface. The best place to start? Your breath and lifeforce energy.

Try this exercise: Take a DEEP BREATH in through your nose and fill up your whole body. Exhale through your mouth and release any stuck or stressed energy. Place one hand on your heart and one hand on your belly then repeat. Take another deep breath in through your nose - the biggest one you’ve taken all day - and exhale it out with a sigh. Give yourself a hug and repeat as often as you need!

Drink Water

Drink your water! Our lives can be so full, chaotic, and beautiful that sometimes stress, fear, worry or anxiety arises because we aren’t caring for our physical needs. A big glass of cold water can be SO healing. We love ours with a little bit of sunshine. What about you?

Writing can be a powerful way to release your daily worries and clear your mind. Writing your stresses, worries or concerns physically on paper can be a mental tool to clear up your headspace and take the weight off your shoulders.

Yoga or Movement

Yoga allows us to bring it ALL to the mat and greet every part of our bodies + true self. To feel all our power and light it. Try this pose to get out of your head and back into your body.

Try this heart-opening yoga pose:

1) Lie prone on the floor. Stretch your legs back, with the tops of your feet on the floor. Bend your elbows and spread your palms on the floor beside your waist so that your forearms are relatively perpendicular to the floor.

2) Inhale and press your inner hands firmly into the floor and slightly back, as if you were trying to push yourself forward along the floor. Then straighten your arms and simultaneously lift your torso up and your legs a few inches off the floor on an inhalation. Keep the thighs firm and slightly turned inward, the arms firm and turned out so the elbow creases face forward.

3) Press the tailbone toward the pubis and lift the pubis toward the navel. Narrow the hip points. Firm but don't harden the buttocks.

4) Firm the shoulder blades against the back and puff the side ribs forward. Lift through the top of the sternum but avoid pushing the front ribs forward, which only hardens the lower back. Look straight ahead or tip the head back slightly, but take care not to compress the back of the neck and harden the throat.

5) Urdhva Mukha Svanasana is one of the positions in the traditional Sun Salutation sequence. You can also practice this pose individually, holding it anywhere from 15 to 30 seconds, breathing easily. Release back to the floor or lift into Adho Mukha Svanasana (downward-facing dog) with an exhalation.

Looking for healthy Passover dishes to bring to your Seder? These are delicious, nutritious, and won't leave you feeling too full after a plentiful meal! You can also enjoy many of these dishes at any time of the year for wholesome, healthy, balancing dinner dishes.

Passover has always been a symbolically intimate celebration in my life at the start of spring. Passover is a celebration of rebirth and freedom. What better way to celebrate than with homemade foods the whole family can enjoy?

Carrot & Beet Latkes with Raw Savory Applesauce

Gather This:

1 tsp fresh lemon juice

1 tsp coarse salt

½ tbsp Green Dream

¼ tsp freshly ground pepper

½ pound carrots (about 4 medium), peeled and grated on the large holes of a box grater

¼ pound beets (about 2 medium), peeled and grated on the large holes of a box grater

1/4 pound sweet or russet potato (about 1 small or 1/2 medium), peeled and grated on the large holes of a box grater

Do This:

Stir carrots, beets, potato, Green Dream, salt, pepper and lemon juice and toss until combined and evenly coated.

Fill a large skillet with about ½ inch oil. Place over medium heat until oil is almost smoking. (To test, drop a small bit of batter into the skillet; it should sizzle upon contact.) Working in batches so as not to crowd skillet, carefully spoon about 2 tablespoons batter into oil for each latke. Lightly tamp down to flatten. Cook, turning once, until golden on each side, 2 to 3 minutes. Using a slotted spatula, transfer to a paper-towel-lined wire rack to drain. Repeat with the remaining batter. Serve immediately with cashew cream and applesauce (recipe below).

Savory Apple Sauce

Gather This:

2 lb Granny Smith apples (4), peeled, cored, and chopped

½ cup water

2 tbsp ghee

1 tbsp Green Dream

1 tbsp cider vinegar

4 garlic cloves, quartered

½ tsp chopped fresh marjoram or thyme

Do This:

Simmer all ingredients except Green Dream in a 3-quart heavy saucepan, covered, stirring occasionally, until apples fall apart and garlic is tender, about 15 minutes. Mash garlic into applesauce. Add Green Dream, mix well. Season with salt + pepper.

Matzah Pizza Recipe

Gather This:

cherry tomatoes

bell pepper

tahini or hummus

marinated olives & artichokes

dairy-free, meltable cheese

tomato sauce

baby summer squash

dairy-free, meltable cheese

fig jam

goat cheese

Cacao Bee Honey

Do This:

To create a base, spread your sauce of choice (pesto/tahini/hummus/tomato sauce/jam) on the matzah. Add your favorite raw toppings, sprinkle on some cheese, and then pop your matzah pies into the oven. Bake until the cheese has melted and voila—your pizzas are ready!

Simple Green Dream Roasted Carrots Recipe

Gather This:

1 bag of Organic Carrots (we used heirloom carrots)

1 tbsp EVOO

1 tsp Green Dream

1 tsp Green Bee Honey

Do This:

Slather carrots with Green Dream, Salt and Pepper, and roast on 400 degrees for 35-40 minutes, turning every 10 minutes. Once caramelized, take out of the oven and drizzle with a bit of Green Bee Honey.

Optional: Add our Green Dream Pesto on the side for that extra flava.

Salted Chocolate Matzah Toffee

Gather This:

10 matzah crackers

2 cups coconut oil

2 cups coconut sugar

2 tsp kosher vanilla extract

1 cup small sliced almonds

1 cup shredded coconut

1 cup cacao nibs

1 cup goji berries

2 ⅔ cups dairy-free, semisweet chocolate chips

⅛ cup of fleur de sel

You can serve the matzah toffee treats whole or break them into pieces. Arrange on a plate as a single layer with parchment in between and be sure to serve with love!

Raw Charoset Truffles Recipe

Gather This:

For the truffles:

1½ cups pitted dates

½ cup dried apples

½ cup chopped walnuts

1 tbsp Cacao Magic

1 tbsp Cacao Bee Honey

1 tbsp coconut oil, melted

1 tbsp sweet red wine/dessert wine (for non-alcoholic truffles, use water)

1 tsp cinnamon

coconut sugar, for decorating

2 Fuji Apples, chopped

1 cup toasted walnuts, chopped

⅓ cup sweet red wine/dessert wine

1½ tsp of cinnamon

1 tbsp Berry Bee Honey

1 tbsp dark coconut sugar

½ tablespoon orange zest

Do This:

Pulse all ingredients in a blender or food processor until fully incorporated. Once the mixture comes together, form into balls and roll in coconut sugar. Place in the fridge to chill for at least 1 hour. Store in an airtight container. Truffles will last up to two weeks in the fridge!

Pulse all ingredients, in a blender of food processor until fully incorporated (your charoset should be relatively chunky). Serve with matzah, challah, ice cream, yogurt, or on its own!

Rituals to Celebrate the Spring Equinox

On March 20th, we welcome spring here in the Northern Hemisphere with the Vernal Equinox. As the Earth rotates around the Sun, the Equinox brings a peaceful equanimity to the entire Earth. It’s a day when all is in balance; a moment of equal light and darkness, giving us the ability to find balance in the hemispheres of our brain and the energies of our body. In the Northern Hemisphere, it’s the welcome of spring - a time of awakening, rebirth and growth and for those in the Southern Hemisphere, it’s the welcome of fall - a time of death, inward being and slowness. Both indicate a time of change and new beginnings.

The Equinox allows a moment to reflect on the balance that the universe created for us. Many times our own personal lives and our role in our global life seem imbalanced; however, the Equinoxes are those sacred moments in nature’s cycle where we can tune in and come back into harmony.

The shift of the season is full of meaning and potential. This is a beautiful time for setting new intentions, cleansing out aspects of your life and starting fresh. It’s a time for planting seeds - both figuratively and literally. Envision the miracles and magic you want to manifest and invite them to unfold.

Rejuvenate your body with a 5-day, 10-day or 14-day spring reset! We’re hosting a 7-Day Green Smoothie Challenge on Instagram (@philosophielove)! Grab our recipe e-book by joining our community here.

March 20th also means an astrological New Year as the zodiac begins again with the start of Aries season. We’ll all be buzzing with a sense of renewal and ignited with the adventurous, vibrant Aries spirit. Driven by competition and leadership, Aries season is all about taking the initiative toward new advances, turn up the confidence and embrace the fierce-loving, radiant being you are.

Here are ways you can tap into the energy of the Spring Equinox and Aries season for rebirth and reawakened spirit.

Take your workouts outside.

For months - and especially over this past year - you’ve been staying safe indoors and warm & cozy from the cold. It’s time to bring your yoga flow out to the grass at a local park or on the sandy beaches. Take morning walks around your neighborhood or go on a hike. No matter what your exercise routine looks like, you’ll feel so much more energized and refreshed by doing it under the sunlight.

Examine the energy leaks in your life.

While the Earth is in perfect balance it’s a great opportunity to examine how you expel your energy in your life. Are you receiving as much as you’re giving? Have you created boundaries? Look at all aspects of your life - career, finances, love, relationships, health, diet - and ask if each feels in alignment with your highest self. What can you do to create more harmony in your life? This may look like saying “no” to people and projects that suck energy from you. This may look like bringing supporting more relationships that support you and lift you up.

Start a body reset and cleanse the physical space around you.

The shift in seasons is a great opportunity to go on a mind and body reset. You can join us at Philosophie in picking up either our 5-day, 10-day or 14-day reset guides. A reset with your health and nutrition offers space to detox and heal your body.

You can also cleanse the energy in your home - maybe this means creating a space in your room for meditations or donating items in your home that are no longer in alignment with your life. It’s a beautiful opportunity to generate positive energy in your surroundings. Make sure to use Chrysalis Water in cultivating beautiful energy in your home!

Journal about new intentions and new beginnings.

The Spring Equinox is a potent time to re-evaluate your life and begin planting seeds for what you want to let in and release this season.

Try the following journal prompts to get started:

What are you thankful for? How can you celebrate these joys in your life?

Where can you balance the masculine and feminine energies in your life?

Where can you embrace your shadows and honor your light as we move forward in this Equinox?

This season is a magical time of the year to celebrate all the vibrancy of life you have around you and show up to it. Each season brings energy with it to support you on your life journey. Embrace it!

Why Your Home Doesn’t Feel Zen and How to Fix It

How to Love Your Body After A Baby: Postpartum Tips

Motherhood. It’s all a crazy bittersweet ride and the craziest part is we would do it 100 times over for our little ones. It is a love is like no other, and you can’t know what this love is like until your little loves are here. Then there’s no going back.

Bringing a newborn into this world is a beautiful thing. You spend months preparing for the arrival — creating space for baby in every aspect of your life. Months spent growing, months making a plan for when baby is earth-side and everything you have to do to make sure baby grows up in a safe, secure, nourishing and loving space. It takes real work — and all the while baby is growing inside you.

“I am a mother to three beautiful children and with them, my life feels complete. Being a mama is the most rewarding aspect of my life — it’s what fills me up completely. That’s not to say motherhood isn’t challenging. Entering life with another newborn has been a true test of what I can handle physically, mentally and emotionally in every way.” - Sophie

It’s important to remember that yes, this new baby matters so, so much — and you’re here to care for him or her in every way — but you, as a mama, are recovering. Your body just birthed a human being, and it needs time to heal. You are in the midst of changing your entire way of life to make space for this tiny person, one that can’t even hold their own head up at first!

So, whether you’re getting ready to have your first chld, second or fifth, we’re sharing our mindfulness, mental health and self-care tips for a more living and gently postpartum recovery.  If you’re ready to fully take on this journey, pick up a copy of Sacred Pause: Postpartum Recovery Guide ebook which is unlike anything out there for new mama care.

“As a new mom, I feel like I’m behind on almost everything even my own self-care and nourishment. Asking for support from my partner or outside help has been crucial. Someone to hold your baby so you can shower in peace or time for yourself. I get up early before my babe to meditate or workout which allows me more peace and control during my day. I have daily smoothies with superfoods to help keep me strong and able to still work and care for my little guy. I love Coconut Magic Coconut Butter for healthy fats which helps with cravings and supports my milk supply. I had superfoods all throughout my pregnancy and it helped so, so much.” - Taylor

Sleep as often when you can and when you can. Most new mamas forget that when baby is sleeping you, mom should be sleeping or resting, too. You don’t have to conquer the million other things on your to-do list. Use this time to reconnect and check-in with yourself. What do you need in order to find calm and serenity? Being well-rested means you can provide more energy for your babe, and also be a much more calm and balanced person. You’ll be able to give all you can to your baby — once you get your own fill of sleep.

All of our Philosophie mamas agree this is SO important and often looked over. Remember to reach out and ask for help. You can’t do it all and nor should you have to. It’s okay to have a babysitter come while you get a message or have a bath. Fill your life with people that support you through it all. Let them help celebrate the little bundle you brought to this world by helping you.

Fresh air and movement are medicine for your mind and soul. Plus, easing your body back into exercise is very good for you. A gentle stroll is healing and is a great option for stress relief when you and the little one have been cooped up inside for far too long. Grab your trusty stroller and take a walk!

Caring for a newborn means also caring for yourself. You are your little babe’s sole provider for all nutrients and vitamins. So, you have to pay extra special attention to what you’re fueling your body with. You also need to drink as much water as you can to keep yourself well hydrated. Make sure to get in a lot of warming foods postpartum, like ginger, coconut water and cooked foods like quinoa and sauteed veggies.  In Chinese medicine, it is thought that pregnancy is a time you are very warm internally and need to balance it with cooling foods (like raw fruits and veggies), and postpartum is a time your body is very cold and needs to be warmed.

The new baby phase is intense. You’re giving all you can to your new babe and anything left over goes to other kids, your career, friends and husband. Remember, this is a humbling period. This is where you truly learn what matters in life and what no longer serves you. It’s up to you, mama. You’re the one that gets to call the shots and ask when you’re in need of help or space. This also means setting boundaries. If life feels a little too chaotic it’s okay to say no to events and instead stay home with your baby. Or maybe you’re in need of time to reconnect with your partner or friends — do it, all of this is good for you.

There’s no need to do it all — and no one is asking you to. Invest in self-care and remember you’re only human. We’re some crazy fierce goddess women for being able to birth a human being, but it’s okay to set realistic expectations on what happens from there. Go slow. Your body is healing, give it space and time. Opt for soothing baths or a healing massage. Treat yourself, you’ve earned it.

This love is truly like nothing else in this life. You can’t fully understand it or experience it until you’re in it. Then that’s it, there’s no going back — and in the very best way possible.
