Halloween is next week and with it marks the beginning of the season of indulging. I write this little reminder every year because this message is so important to me. This season does NOT need to be a time of guilt, shame, anger and frustration. The mere fact that you found your way to this blog and maybe follow me on social media, means you care about your overall health and wellbeing. And maybe up until this season, you’ve made conscious decisions to create more salads and smoothie bowls, enjoying the colors of the rainbow on your plate but are now staring at a giant size bag of Kit Kats + Reese’s, feeling the very real and very intense guilt and shame that comes with it.
This is where I come in. This is where myself and the mission behind Philosophie, hold you and tell you it’s OKAY! It’s okay to enjoy a piece of chocolate goodness and a slice of home-baked warm pumpkin pie. It’s about BALANCE.
This holiday season, remind yourself of all the good you’ve done throughout the year and all the good you’ll continue to do. Truly step into the present and enjoy the precious time with family and friends during the holidays.
Some other tips for navigating the holiday sweet season include —
Nourish yourself throughout the day, every day, and whenever you can. When you’re not out trick-and-treating with the kiddos, or at Thanksgiving dinner or enjoying a warm cup of hot chocolate remember to fuel your body with nourishing nutrient-dense foods. You can always sneak in a little bit of superfoods into your meals for a quick + easy boost!
Hydrate, constantly. Keeping yourself well-hydrated keeps your body into feeling full longer. Our snack cravings more often come from dehydration. Enjoying a cool glass of water will also help you tap into what your body is actually craving. I love making Herbal Water Infusions when I’m craving a little more than just water.
Be a little picky. Okay, of course, I don’t want you to turn down the sweet potato marshmallow yams made just for you, but you don’t have to eat everything offered at a holiday meal if you don’t want to. A treat is a treat because you really love and enjoy it! If you’re not really a fan of pumpkin pie (gasp!) then by all means, turn it down.
Above all, enjoy it. The holidays are a beautiful time of the year and I can’t wait to spoil little Noa like crazy this year! When you are enjoying a little sweet here and there throughout the season, really take time to ENJOY it. Savor each delicious bite. By really tuning in to the beauty of the experience, you’ll truly feel satisfied and actually pretty good about yourself.
You can also explore our blog for a TON of simple and amazingly delicious dessert and treat recipes that are healthier and more vibrant. A couple of my favorites are our gluten-free s'mores and our rainbow paleo donuts.
So much love!
