3 Dreamy Philosophie x Cafe Gratitude Brunch Recipes

Last month, we teamed up with Cafe Gratitude and had the most magical brunch that I’m still in awe over. I’m pretty positive the Acai Berry Bliss Parfaits were made of unicorn poo (aka: Berry Bliss, wild berries, frozen acai, gluten-free granola, and pure love!).

I’ve been going to Cafe Gratitude for 9 years, when the only location was in San Francisco. I would visit my older sister when she lived there and take a public transportation adventure through the city to get there.

When they came to LA, I burst with excitement. I’ve probably been to the Larchmont location 500 times. It’s been a huge part of my world for a decade, and now I’m collaborating with them in the most dreamy of ways!

And now I’d love for you, my ever expanding Philosophie family + community, to try this trio of beautiful brunch superfood recipes created by Cafe Gratitude’s Chef Dreux Eliis.

Introducing Foods into Your Babe’s Diet

There’s so much magic in rediscovering life with your little one. Opening them up to the limitless experiences this world has to offer and what it means to live a life of bliss, balance, health and full of love. Every sensation, every experience is open for them—all you need to do as parents is guide them.

Noa is growing so much, so fast, but I feel insanely honored every day to be her mama. I’ve gotten so many questions about how I’ve been introducing real foods into her diet and wanted to share my experience and has worked best for us. More than anything, this is a period of play and experimentation. It’s connecting with your little one and allowing him or her to be CURIOUS. There’s a saying that goes, “Food before one is just for fun.” This stage is all about experimenting together and figuring out what works.

Our little miss Noa started with solids at 6 ½ months and I knew she was ready because she started to be very curious about food. She would reach for plates of whatever food was around her and was really interested in whatever I was eating. So much so that she would actually try to grab food from my mouth. All I’ve done is facilitate this initial curiosity. She still gets most of her nutrients and vitamins from breast milk and we still breastfeed 6 times a day, every 3 hours. She only tries food in-between when she’s awake and full of energy.

Instead of dictating what she does or doesn’t eat, I’ve been introducing her to a LOT of ingredients at a time. All of which are clean and organic - a whole lot of fruits and veggies, and more recently, organic nut butter! She eats everything; she’s definitely not a picky eater. What can I say? She gets it from her mama.

Some other tools & tricks that have worked for little Noa during this curious + playful phase:

Pureed food is the BEST way to get in a lot of nutrients + superfoods (of course!) - I’ve introduced both Green Dream and Berry Bliss to Noa, especially Berry Bliss because of all the vitamin C

This is a phase to experiment with a variety of spices, sweet flavors (fruit), salt flavors (a little bit of sea salt) and textures

Combine foods + ingredients in different ways, especially if they seem initially confused about it - Noa was initially not interested in kale by itself but tried it in smoothies and she’s liked it!

When trying a unique and potent ingredient (i.e. fennel) you can offset the taste with potato, banana, or pear

One major tool we’ve found to work is introducing allergy foods early on in her diets Did you know that most Israelis have no peanut allergy? One cause of this has been said from introducing little babes to peanut early on. Bamba is a peanut-butter puffed snack and is in almost every Israeli home (including ours) and everyone enjoys them from kids to adults! They have a great texture for infants and it helps babies to familiarize with the flavor profile and sensations of peanuts. One study has shown that babes introduced to allergic foods (primarily peanuts) are less likely to develop this allergy later on in life.

We’ve also been relying on a sample of baby foods and products to help ease this transition and make it a safe and enjoyable experience.

Munchkin Fresh Food Feeder: So great for fruits + veggies. We add frozen fruit to it which has also helped with teething.

Happy Baby Organics Puffs: These are so great for snacking and have so many different flavors. They melt in her mouth, are sourced from clean ingredients, full of vitamins, and encourages self-feeding.

Baby Mum-Mums Rice Crackers: Rice biscuits created especially for teething and are entirely gluten-free and non-GMO certified. The best part is that they melt in her mouth easily and are easy to hold.

Square Baby Food: Personalized puréed baby food with real, whole ingredients. They help customize a food plan based on your baby’s age, diet restrictions and preferences. Each blend incorporates a little’s ones recommended servings of fruit, veggies, proteins and grains. Noa loves them!

Yumi: These baby foods are created for each stage of food introduction + development. They begin with single ingredient puréed blends, then move to soups with 2 ingredients and finally, multi-ingredient chia or quinoa puddings. All their blends are organic, gluten-free, low in sugar and nutrient-dense—just the way mama eats!

Once Upon A Farm: Super clean and super simple organic baby food that offer a TON of flavors and varieties. Noa loves, loves, loves the applesauce blend. These are so easy to take on-the-go and I don’t have to worry if she’s still getting the right nutrients and vitamins into her little body.

If you’re curious about what to feed your baby from the foods that already exist in your kitchen. Here’s the food that Noa has gravitated more toward and what has worked best for her. But everyone is different and what works for my babe might not work for yours. Just like us!

Fruits: Asian pear (her first food), berries, banana, mango (frozen from Trader Joe’s)

Veggies: Carrot (to chew on), avocado (great finger food), sweet potatoes, cucumber

Combos: Whole grain cereal mixed with bone broth (her favorite) and smoothies

Right now, we’re staying away from honey until she turns one due to a risk of botulism. You can bet that she’ll be trying organic raw honey on her first birthday!

It’s been such a joy to watch Noa try out different foods and find the magic behind taste. I love creating recipes for her and can’t wait for the many more we’ll be trying.

Simple Purée Recipe

1 pear

Handful of peas

Handful of spinach

¼ tsp of Green Dream Superfood + Protein Blend

Combine and blend in a baby food processor and serve! YUM!

Philosophie Self-Love Challenge

Valentine’s Day is almost here, and with it comes the pressure of either being in a loving relationship or showing off your commitment to the one you’re in already. This pressure can build into a cloud of negative energy within your soul and throw you off the vibe you’ve been riding throughout the rest of Aquarius season - a time for growth, freedom, and experimentation in your life. In this “season of love”, it’s easy to forget the most important romance you have: the love of self. You might have had some wild, passionate, unforgettable relationships, but none of your partners - past or present - will ever love you as much as you must love yourself. In the spirit of that, we’re announcing a special Philosophie Self-Love Challenge.

Self-love is simply about wielding your power to act from a place of kindness + respect toward your entire SELF. This holiday is celebrating love in its purest form. The love we give, the love we receive, and, maybe most importantly, the love that we are.

Starting this Sunday, make a promise to the fierceness + beauty within you by committing one act of genuine self-love each day leading up to Valentine’s Day (Thursday, February 14). Whether you finally make that tasty recipe you bookmarked long ago, go on a scenic hike, start a new creative project, or just put your feet up and relax for once, we encourage you to do something nice for the one who’s been there since day one and will stay with you until the end. Each day, snap a photo/vid of your gesture and post it to Instagram from Sunday to Thursday (Valentine’s Day) for a chance to win a Berry Bliss Self-Bonding Bundle that includes: Berry Bliss Superfood + Protein Blend, Berry Bee Honey, Palo Santo, Rose Quartz and some extra beauty goodies from our favorite brands. Bonus points if you treat your body to the Berry Bliss product of your choice every day!

Like all true love, self-care is a challenge. But those who put in the work will reap the benefits - and not just the ones with delicious superfoods in them. Show us that you can practice self-care for five days; show yourself that you can do it for a lifetime.

Challenge Rules:

  1. Post on Instagram once a day leading up to Valentine’s Day an act of self-love/self-care you did that day. (You’ll score extra points if you include Berry Bliss and mention how you incorporated it into your day.)
  2. Tag @philosophielove on Instagram and use #PhilosophieSelfLove
  3. Love yourself!

Are you in?! Let us know in the comments below or share with us on Instagram using #PhilosohieSelfLove.

30 Day Flow Challenge Recap

Aligning and connecting with your body is so important for overall health vitality, bliss and abundance. So much of this relationship begins within and making sure you fuel your body with everything it needs. Our body is made of up of about 60% water so above all, remaining hydrated is our #1 health goal in life.

In January, I challenged myself and took on Flow’s 30 Day Alkaline Challenge where I drank up to 3L of Flow Naturally Alkaline Spring Water erry’ day! Flow made it so easy to enjoy more water throughout my day. They have fun flavors and are 100% recyclable, making me feel even better about sipping on them! My favorite was the lemon + ginger flavor, very refreshing.

Breastfeeding is SO dehydrating and at 7 months, Noa and I are still beautifully in this flow. It’s said that producing breast milk takes approximately 25% of the body’s energy. It makes so much sense that it makes you thirsty! I always drink a LARGE glass of water whenever I breastfeed. Rather than making dramatic changes and trying to control this aspect of our relationship I’ve decided to make a simple change for myself by taking on #TheFlow30 and support my body in staying well-hydrated! Staying hydrated when you breastfeed provides natural minerals and electrolytes for not only your body but also your little one's daily meals.

Throughout the challenge, I noticed changes in how I breathe and move every day. I felt lighter, abundant and had more vibrant energy. I noticed a major shift in my skin, which is usually the first sign of dehydration.

Some of the other major benefits I noticed are -

  • A major shift in positive, increased energy (so needed for long work days)
  • An increased sense of focus
  • Better digestion
  • Stronger immunity (this is an absolute MUST during the cold season)
  • Glowing, soft skin
  • A deeper and more restful sleep

Challenging yourself to up your water intake and add more superfoods into your diet are very simple changes you can make right now! They don’t require you to dramatically change or modify your routine. It’s about supporting the journey + transformation you’re already on by making it easier!

The second you wake up grab a Flow water and drink it as you ease into your morning routine. Warm water with lemon is great for digestion while a cold glass of water can wake you up.

How will you be challenging yourself to drink more water? Share in the comments below or connect with us on Instagram using #PhilosophieLove or #TheFlow30.

Adapto – what? The Philosophie Behind the Adaptogens in our Products

Adaptogens are Mother’s Nature natural medicine. Adaptogens are powerful little plants and herbs that have literally withstood natural disasters and bring their same ADAPTIVE qualities into our bodies. Philosophie babe, Marissa Cohen, shares the beauty and power of adaptogens and how they show up in our superfoods!

Each one of the Philosophie Superfood Blends contains potent, responsibly-sourced adaptogens. From maca in Berry Bliss to mesquite in Green Dream and reishi mushroom powder in Cacao Magic, these blends are designed to nourish you on a cellular level, beyond helping you meet your daily macronutrient requirements. Maybe adaptogens are a staple in your diet, or maybe you’re not sure how to pronounce most of them. Adaptogenic herbs and medicinal mushrooms have gained significant attention in recent years, and for good reason. Despite what your social media feed may lead you to believe, these powders are far from a recent trend. Adaptogens have been used for thousands of years in eastern medicine practices such as Traditional Chinese Medicine to help restore the body to balance.

What are Adaptogens?

The term “adaptogen” was first defined by a Russian pharmacologist to mean “agents which help an organism counteract any adverse effects of a physical, chemical or biological stressor by generating nonspecific resistance.”* For example, the cacao and reishi mushroom in Cacao Magic help the body achieve homeostasis and fight fatigue. If you are feeling depleted, they can deliver energy, but if you are overstimulated they can have a calming effect. Cacao and reishi specifically have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which are specifically beneficial for helping the body cope with physical and mental stress.

Adaptogens for Stress Relief

The psychological benefits of adaptogens make them especially useful in today’s world. An estimated 31.1% of Americans experience anxiety at some point in their lives.* Anxiety disorders range in their intensity, but, when left unaddressed, they can become crippling or lead to more severe mental and physical illnesses. Using adaptogens is a great way to manage stress from the outside world and minimize the effects of the cortisol stress response in the body. One study found that consistently taking adaptogens for 60 days decreased stress in participants by 28%.* Furthermore, other trials have shown the herbs ability to combat depression, lower blood pressure, promote sleep and cure sleep disorders like insomnia, and treat adrenal fatigue.

Adaptogens for Brain Health and Depression

Adaptogens can boost cognitive functioning in several ways, which explains why it is often used in patients with depression and Alzheimer's disease. Adaptogens boosts serotonin levels in the brain. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that plays a role in emotional and mood regulation. Low serotonin levels are linked to depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder.* By helping achieve adequate serotonin levels, adaptogens can bring relief to those suffering from mood disorders. Furthermore, they help regenerate brain cells and reconstruct synapses, the never endings where cells communicate with one another. As a result, the ability to learn, memorize, and recall information is enhanced.

Adaptogens for Hormone Balance and Fertility

All three blends (included in the Superfood Honeys and Superfood Coconut Butter) contain organic maca powder. Maca is a root that is dried and ground into a fine powder. It has a rich, malty taste that helps make the Superfood Blends so delicious. But it’s not just your taste buds that have you craving your daily dose of Philosophie products – your hormones want their hit from maca, as well. Maca helps balance hormones by supporting the endocrine system, making it a natural aphrodisiac that increases sex drive and supports fertility. And while most energy enhancers like caffeine deplete the adrenal glands, maca supports the adrenals and stabilizes your blood sugar to give long-lasting stamina. Not to mention that it contains a host of vitamins and minerals that are necessary for reproduction, including calcium, magnesium, zinc, selenium, and iron.* These nutrients are best absorbed when paired with a healthy fat, giving you another reason to dip your spoon in our coconut butter jars.

The beauty of the Philosophie products is that they are curated to give your unique body exactly what it needs through the use of the adaptogens. They work their magic on their own or in synchrony with each other when combined. Check out our recipe page for hundreds of ideas to begin nourishing your beautiful body, mind, and spirit.

Healthy Tips + a Simple Dish for the New Year, ELEVATED You

While this post is sponsored by Samsung, these are 100% my opinions!

There’s some powerful + potent energy swirling around the first month of the year. So many opportunities to allow you to connect deeply with your true self. Many of us fixate on our health and body at the start of the year. It’s important that as you continue to work on your New Year’s intentions to remind yourself that you need to approach everything with love including loving yourself, deeply and wholly. That this process will never be about depletion or restriction but working with the beauty of food to create nutrient-dense meals that taste just as good as they are for your health and wellbeing.

I get so excited at the start of the new year because I feel so inspired to create. So much of my creative mind begins in the kitchen where I can make a clean and simple dish with a ton of plant-based food, superfoods and colors galore. I rely SO much on my Samsung refrigerator to keep my veggies fresh so I can grab them straight from the fridge and whip up some savory, herb-roasted veggies. The Samsung oven cooks veggies evenly and I can leave it to do other things. I’m all about time management in the kitchen!!

The new year is also a great time to get back to your meal-prep routine, I don’t meal prep every meal but I do like to make one large dish at the start of the week that can be used again in different ways. One of my favorites - especially in the winter months - is roasted sweet potatoes and carrots with a veggie cauliflower fried rice. Our Samsung oven with stove top makes it super easy to roast a large tray of carrots and sweet potatoes while cooking a good healthy portion of cauliflower rice with my favorite chopped veggies.

This dish is great to pack for lunch the next day or add as a side to a chicken or salmon dish. I get bored when I eat the same thing every day but starting with a good base allows you to build a meal with lots of nutrients and superfoods! I mix & match the herbs and spices I use which adds a different flavor to each dish I create. I also add plenty of superfoods to any dish I make like the Green Dream blend which enhances the savory qualities of a meal while also adding protein, vitamins and nutrients.

Cauliflower Fried Rice w/ Roasted Veggies

This recipe is so easy and makes a great meal-prep dish. It has so many good veggies and a healthy serving of Green Dream for energizing and detoxifying properties. ENJOY!

Gather This:

1 large head of cauliflower (or buy the cauliflower pre-riced)

Cut + cubbed veggies (I use greens, tomatoes and celery)

Large carrots (cut in half)

Sweet potato

1 tbsp Green Dream

Do This:

Cut your sweet potato and carrots and mix them with olive oil and any herbs + spices you’d like - I love adding Green Dream along with Himalayan pink salt and pepper. Arrange them on a large tray and roast them in the oven for 30 min. at 375°. While your veggies roast, make your cauliflower rice. Add a tbsp of olive oil to a pan and cook your chopped veggies and cauliflower rice on the stove for 5-7 minutes until the cauliflower is tender.
