As a lover of all things fun and sun, I am BEYOND excited for the weather to heat up and for the summer season to officially begin. Even though I make a conscious effort to nourish my body and live an active lifestyle throughout the year, summertime definitely gives me a little extra motivation to get toned up. These are a few of my favorite ways to get bikini-ready:
Morning Detox Drink
This time of year, I like to wake up and put on a bikini! To kickstart digestion for a flat tummy, I start my morning with a glass of lemon water and add little manuka honey. Lemons are super cleansing for the digestive system, and help eliminate toxins from the body. Try adding a pinch of cayenne pepper too- it's a powerful way to quickly boost your metabolism!
Greens in Everything
You can't go wrong with greens. Citrus salads are a yummy way to load up on green things, especially when you're craving crisp, cooling foods. They are super quick to throw together, and a drizzle of Green Bee Honey adds a detoxifying dose of spirulina + a hint of sweetness to any dressing !
Switch It Up
When the weather is nice, I like to experiment with new workouts. Grab a friend and do something you don't always have time for. Exercising should be fun. Warm weather is the perfect excuse to head to the beach and ride bikes, surf, hike do yoga...whatever makes you happy + helps you work up a sweat! Try to change up your routine, and take on a new challenge.
I lead a super busy life, so I need to start my day with fuel that will last until I can get another bite. Smoothies are perfect in the morning and give me optimal energy on hot days. I like to build a base with some greens, fresh lemon juice, nut milk, and of course, superfoods! Usually, I'll add a spoonful of Coconut Bliss Coconut Butter to make sure that I’m fueling both my body and my brain. Healthy fats keep you full, satisfied, support concentration, and they happen to be a wonderful way to naturally boost your metabolism and keep your body supercharged!
Drinking water is super important, especially when it’s hot out. Most of us sweat during a workout, but the heat from the sun also causes us to perspire and lose additional water reserves. The LAST thing you want to do is experience severe dehydration, so make sure to take water with you throughout the day. I like to keep reusable water bottles in my bag, and also in my car. That way I can stay hydrated no matter where I go. 6 bottles, 7 bottles, maybe 8? Whatever it takes! Water also helps us stay full for longer periods of time, so drink up!
Play with your kids outside! No excuses! I live in Southern California where I'm lucky to have great weather all year round. Still, summer is my favorite time to embrace being barefoot in my backyard and spending time with my boys! Sometimes we try to do a little yoga, or stretch as our skin soaks up the sun. A natural dose of Vitamin D keeps our cells energized, and allows us to feel like we're glowing from the inside out!
No matter how you like to prep for summertime, make sure that you do it from a place of love, not restriction. Be good to your body, fuel up with nourishing foods, and keep yourself hydrated. This combination will surely keep you energized to enjoy the sun all summer long + feel good doing it too!
