Several weeks ago, I chatted with Elyse Wagner of My Kitchen Shrink to discuss how to make simple but significant changes in your life by adding superfoods to your diet. Elyse is a Certified Nutritionist as well as a positive psychology professional and coach, and she has made it her mission to help others achieve healthy perspectives on food and their bodies by developing positive attitudes and behaviors around diet, nutrition and wellbeing.
She recently shared her new e-guide, Smoothie Secrets Revealed, with me, and I was so excited to see someone making the culinary and psychological tools for achieving a vibrant state of health and happiness so accessible. Her 82-page book is absolutely jam-packed with empowering daily practices, nutritional education, and easy, gluten-free, plant-based recipes. She keeps it simple by laying out 6 key principles to choosing nourishing foods and explains the importance of daily detoxification of both the body and the mind. She also spells out how to select the produce that will provide you with the optimal amount of the purest nutrients as well as storage tips for keeping your fruits and veggies fresh and delicious.
Elyse’s step-by-step instructions on how to make gut-friendly fermented foods and fresh nut and seed milks and butters couldn’t be more approachable, while her comprehensive guides to the nutrient densities of different fruits and veggies and the roles different vitamins and minerals play in our bodies make it easy to understand the very important role that our diets play in our overall states of health.
Of course, my favorite part of the guide is the smoothie section, in which Elyse breaks down the anatomy of the perfect smoothie by explaining how to create the proper proportions of healthy fats, greens, fruits, and veggies to make a well-balanced and healing treat in your blender. She gives readers 30 unique smoothie recipes and mantras, accompanied by absolutely gorgeous images, created to help nourish both the body and the soul. This week, I’ve been making the Energizing and Immunity Boosting Ginger Echinacea Smoothie (recipe below) and adding a tablespoon of Philosophie Green Dream Superfood Blend for an extra boost of protein and detoxifying ingredients. With every sip of this wholesome, refreshing smoothie, I am reminded of how much I enjoy eating healthy and nutritious foods that feed my mind, body, and soul.
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- 1 banana
- 1 cup mixed greens
- 1 small slice of lemon
- 1 small slice of ginger
- 1 tbsp echinacea
- 1 tsp raw honey (we like to use Berry Bliss Superfood Honey)
- 1 tbsp Philosophie Green Dream
