I partnered with Kohl's for this post - they provided me these products but all opinions are my own. I only share products that I generally love to my readers.
When people ask me how to stay healthy if you’re someone with a busy lifestyle, giving advice about food prepping is my first place to start. Between juggling a business, running around after my kids, keeping my fitness levels up, and general life craziness—I never stop hustling. Eating with intention is a huge part of overall wellbeing, and it’s super important for me to never compromise that!
When you have .5 seconds to eat something before running out the door again, you’re much more likely to eat something healthy if it’s just sitting there ready to go in your fridge. It’s ALL about convenience (there’s a reason why so many people eat fast food!). I always keep the fridge stocked with easy meals for on the go, especially as the school year gets much more intense as we move into Fall. I usually do a big food prep on Sunday nights for the week ahead. Here are a few simple steps to start food prepping:
JUICING/// I love to make big batches of Green Dream Juice in my Breville Juicer. The kids LOVE apple juice, so this one’s a no brainer to sneak in some extra greens and nutrients! Apples are also in season now, and I always try to take full advantage of produce that is in season. It’s better for your bod and better for your community because you can support local farmers and produce that hasn’t travelled super far distances to get to your plate (or juicer). I juice apple with lemon, spinach, and Green Dream. The kids can’t get enough!
GRILLING/// We just got a new grill, which I’m so stoked about! Grilled veggies are pretty much the most delicious thing ever, and so easy to make now that we have a grill! Some of our favorites are bell peppers and zucchini, but really anything works! Just get what is in season and what you like and will actually eat! All you have to do is coat it with a little coconut oil and seasoning (I usually do a mix of Pink salt, pepper, and Trader Joe’s salt free all-over seasoning). You can really mix up the veggies with the seasoning! For example, curry goes great with cauliflower! YUM! My mouth is watering just thinking about it! After you oil and season the veggies however you like, just throw them on the grill! Kai loves grilled veggies in his school lunch, and I love eating them as is or throwing them on a salad.
BLENDING/// My blender is probably my most prized possession. By probably, I mean definitely. I make a smoothie almost every morning for a nutrient dense and satisfying breakfast full of superfoods. I also use my blender to make soups in the winter, superfood sauces for pasta, pestos with Green Dream, salad dressings…and the list goes on. The best thing about a blender is that you can make big batches of things! Instead of grabbing the convenient store bought one full of additives and other nasties, you can make enough salad dressing to last a week. If you food prep correctly, making things yourself at home is just as easy as buying a less wholesome version at the store. Sometimes I make smoothies the night before if I know I have to get up early or that the next morning is going to be particularly hectic. In that case, I’ll make the smoothie the night before and put it in the fridge in an airtight container. It tastes just as good, and will last three days (so you could make three servings at once if you wanted to). I also blend up the base for my favorite Green Dream Chia Seed Pudding in my blender. I like to make a huge batch of this for the week ahead so I have nutrient dense chia puddings just ready to grab and go in my fridge!
