Protein bars can turn into candy bars without you even knowing it in about two seconds! In fact, a lot of popular “healthy” protein bars list sugar or sweetener (even if it’s coconut nectar, brown rice syrup, etc) as the FIRST ingredient!! Bars aren’t necessarily a whole food…but if they are made with all whole food ingredients, they can be wholesome, nutritious, and energizing. I love the idea of Larabars because they are minimal ingredients and taste delicious. The only problem is that just eating a bar made out of dates and nuts will give you an instant burst of sugar and energy (which is exactly what I want at times). These other bars also have minimal ingredients, but they have a little bit more to them. The extra protein and goodness will keep you fueled and fuller longer.

Lemon+cashew=vegan cheesecake They have super unique flavors. I also love the Cacao+Hemp+Walnut for a decadent flavor. They’re refined sugar free. They taste like Larabars with just a bit more complexity to them! They also have a bit more protein, which will keep you fuller longer.
- RX Bar
These bars are probably some of the cleanest out there. I love that all of the ingredients are listed right on the front. They’re ALL ingredients that your body actually recognizes as food. It’s super cool that they use egg whites in the bars because eggs are actually a perfect protein source! They contain all 9 essential amino acids, making them a complete protein. Their “No BS” approach to packaged food is refreshing and totally in tune with my food philosophy.
- Perfect Bar
These are AMAZING! You have to keep them in the fridge because after a week at room temperature, the natural omega oils (from the nut butters and superfood blend) start to separate from the dry ingredients (like a jar of peanut butter). The refrigeration is what helps the bar stay in shape and maintain its fresh flavor, with honey as a natural binder. I LOVE the almond butter flavor. They also make mini bars which are great for school lunches. They have a line of vegan bars too that are dairy free, and those are awesome too! They pack so many superfoods and nutrients into one bar, so it’s actually a really substantial meal replacement when you’re traveling or in a pinch.
- Square Bar
These are a perfect smoothie topper for when you want a really filling and chocolate smoothie bowl. It’s definitely more of a dessert bar, but it has tons of protein so it balances out the sugar. They have a mint+chocolate flavor that is to die for, but every flavor I’ve tried so far is amazing.
- Greens+ Chia Bar
The kids love these! Leo calls these “cheetah” bars...They’re literally OBSESSED!!! The best part is that the first ingredient is a mix of powdered greens!! These are a must on road trips, on the go for hangriness, and pretty much any other occasion.
- Raw Revolution
Spirulina Dream is my favorite flavor. I love the idea of sneaking in greens and superfoods like spirulina whenever possible (read; “Make Every Food A Superfood). They have a HUGE line of products, and they even have a line of bars that are specifically dessert themed! Definitely a good option for if you have a sweet tooth like I do!
