I’ve been basking in the energy from last night’s full moon and soaking up these last few *days* of this pregnancy. Baby girl is almost here and that means time to prepare our “go bag.” This time around I’m so much more prepared than my previous pregnancies where I just didn't know what I know now. What I know now is less is more. That you'll be 100% fine and taken care of even if you forget some things because the hospital is so accommodating and lovely. All you really need is a carseat to bring the babe home in, an open heart and balanced mind, and a healthy baby.
Besides working with a doula and preparing for my mental, emotional and physical state post birth, I’ve been mindful of the things I’ll need to be comfortable during this long process. Here’s my list of “mom-essentials” to take with you to the hospital:
For Mama:
Cozy Robe (I have a long Pink Blush one with flowers for when I’m cold)
Comfy PJs + Sweats (I’ll be living in this, you don't want anything too restricting or tight)
Socks or Slippers
Nipple Cream (needed!)
Pads (highly recommend Parasol Col)
Underwear
Fridababy "mom washer" (Because who wants to wipe themselves after all that?)
Nipple Guards
Hospital Gown (Amazon has adorable ones with all kinds of designs so you can look stylish even in labor)
Snacks (I like protein bars, Coconut Magic Coconut Butter, and coconut water, but bring whatever gives you energy)
Liquid Iron (I love Floradix liquid iron, non constipating)
Toiletries (chapstick, dry shampoo, face wipes so you don't have to stand up to wash face, face and body moisturizer, earplugs + eye mask for sleep)
(OPTIONAL) A small cooler to bring the placenta home for a practitioner to tincture and encapsulate for consumption. Research shows that the placenta contains potassium, fiber, protein, and important hormones like testosterone and estradiol to boost postnatal health. Also optional, speaker for music, playlist or sounds you want (I'll probably just do ocean waves) and battery powered candles.
For Baby:
Swaddle (Love Aden + Anais!)
Outfit for baby to come home in
Blanket
Pacifier (We have Ryan and Rose)
Booties + Socks
Baby hat!
Diapers + Diaper Cream
Carseat already installed (if you don’t know how to do this yourself, have a California Highway Patrol Officer help you!) We invested in a Nuna Rava carseat which seemed to get incredible reviews
Crystal for holding sacred energy during birth
