Heart of the Week: Athleisure

In an age of influencers, it’s so much harder to find brands you can trust and separate the truth from the sell. I’m bold and true in everything I do; if I don’t truly believe in something then I’m done with it. Sure, sometimes brands pay me to promote their products/clothing/what have you, but I can promise you I'm not promoting ANYTHING I don't love personally and truly.

That said, here are a few of my all time favorite athleisure brands. They’re mostly smaller, fair trade, mindful companies that give back and empower you to be your best self.

Athleta

Support fair trade businesses! Especially ones as amazing as Athleta. Everything about this brand is perfection, from their unique colors to the way their fabrics sculpt your body. You deserve to feel beautiful even when you’re lounging around eating yummy Philosophie superfood smoothie bowls.

Year of Ours

I love this brand because it’s one that I can trust. Not only are their clothes comfy and stylish, they’re all made in America by a group of boss women. They sell everything from sports bras to velour sweats, giving you a variety of chic activewear style options for any occasion. My favorite thing about Year of Ours is the way they’ve designed their clothes to fit any body type, including one that gets rounder every week!

Electric and Rose

I’m in LOVE with this athletic gear. I found them a few years ago and they are the real deal. They’ve got it all: bras, leggings, hoodies, tanks, pants, shirts and dresses. I adore their vibrant patterns and designs that bring out my energy and encourage my body to move. I'm wearing their jumper a lot right now in pregnancy and it's so comfortable and cute. The co-founders are an adorable couple from Venice with a simple story and big manifestations. Small businesses are able to capture a signature look and voice that truly inspires authenticity.

Varley

As a mom-preneur myself, seeking brands with the same kind of foundermade as my own is so important to my everyday life. I go out of my way to seek brands that fit so nicely into my own beliefs and values as a social impactor. Varley was created by a young, London-based mom who fell in love with Santa Monica and wanted to blend the two worlds. She’s a mom who put so much love into her brand that Varley is now carried by retailers worldwide. She’s an inspiration and her clothes are supportive for a mama to be.

Outdoor Voices

This one is simple. They have a section for dog walking! Need I say more? They’re all about getting your body moving in any way possible no matter how small the activity is and I support any brand with that mission statement.

Show Me Your MuMu

Show me your mumu is fairly new in this fitness movement but ridiculously cute patterns and I know the owners and those that run the company well. They are a vibrant group of beautiful women who are local to LA. Their other clothes and prints are insanely cute (and affordable), too!

Spiritual Gangster

this brand and company has been near and dear to me for several years. I've watched them grow their athletic wear slowly over time. I love that they are a family friendly company with tons of cute clothes for Kai and Leo. We love to match! Spiritual Gangster is high vibration clothing bringing together yogis, musicians, artists and more. Their clothing is comfortable, soft and easy.

SoloSol Movement

If you're looking for amazing kids leggings, solosol movement is your go to! They match mama too, so it's extra special. I love their prints, they are fun and affordable. Their bras for mama are great too, but better for smaller busted women. Solosol is out of Manhattan Beach and the owner is an absolute sweetheart and hustler.

At the end of the day, finding your athleisure brand requires listening to your body’s needs. Follow your intuition before you throw money and energy at a brand that doesn’t support you back.

Magical Moon Talk: Full Moon Bloom in Libra

Today we celebrate a Full Moon in Libra which is also commonly known as the Pink Moon because as a reference to all the blooming flowers that show up at this time. It reminds us that life is continuously growing + rebirthing much like the wildflowers and creatures that emerge and blossom this month. This Pink Moon in Libra also signifies a time of balance and harmony. This is time to look at areas of life that may be draining your energy or asking for more. It also encourages to focus on the collective and the relationships will nurture.

“With a second Full Moon Blue Moon in Libra, the cosmos is focusing our consciousness on our relationships. The sacred dance of the masculine and feminine is being recalibrated at foundational levels. There are greater forces at work moving us all into new evolutionary pathways, we must trust that ultimately these changes are leading us toward greater expansion and fulfillment.” - Mystic Mama

How can you show up more the relationships that align with you and fill your life? Can you let go of some that deplete you or drain you?

I shared an article on Chalkboard mag all about ways to improve your quality of life by harnessing the ability to DROP in. With all the Full Moon energy in the air, it’s easier to tune into the present moment but I also walk through my 5 ways to drop in on the daily.

Here's an excerpt:

"What does it take to drop in? Dropping in means to fully connect to that deep intuition within, to feel grounded energy and feet planted firmly on the ground, to channel all the sisters and mothers before you, to hear the wisdom within and let love pour out from the belly of your bones.

After years of working with my mind and body to be able to sink into the present moment better, my ability to show up, drop in and let go is much faster than ever before. There are many ways to get to that place of grounded-ness and presence, but I find the best way is to be alone. To connect inward and sink in."

Magical Moon Talk: Aries New Moon

When the first Friday of a new month is also a New Moon you know is going to be a day full of magic and potent energy. New Moons are a beautiful time for planting intentions and speaking them out so you can begin to put steps toward achieving them in this new cycle. Most New Moons are full of quiet, introspective emotions—it’s days where I turn inward, meditate, take a long bath and stay inside, close with my loved ones.

This New Moon, however, is fueled by fierce and fiery Aries. She encourages to recognize our true selves and throw out anything and everything that doesn’t align with who we are and our life’s purpose. An Aries New Moon encourages us to be bold, daring, spontaneous and confident in all our actions.

“We are finding our courage in knowing that our honesty/vulnerability is our redeeming strength, what we feel deep down is valid, and we are valiantly moving forward with our hearts like lanterns guiding us through the darkness.” - Mystic Mama

Channel all this vibrant energy through a meditation to help channel your intuition and call your true intentions forward. I shared a guided moving meditation now live on my YouTube channel.

Cleaning the Clutter in All Aspects of Your Life

Everything around you has the potential to affect your mood and energy just as much as what you put into your body. So while you’re cleansing it’s important to notice everything in your life and whether you’re filling your life with things, spaces and relationships that either uplift you or deplete you. Once you begin to take all that spring cleaning energy into the important aspects of your life - whether that’s your home and the physical space around you, the products you use, your social circle + relationships, or your digital devices - you’ll attract in more loving, more gentle and more aligned energy into your life.

Your home

The first place I always devote a lot of cleansing and decluttering to is my home and the space around me. Clutter in your physical space can create clutter in your mind, making you unable to concentrate on the things that actually matter in the present moment instead you’re focusing on the chores that need to be done, the work piling up or that box downstairs that was yet to be put away. You’re left uninspired and stressed.

I get help and support from my love, Dany of Spatial Soulutions. She comes in about every month to help me cleanse, reorganize and style areas of my home that need a little more love and positive energy. Dany is an intuitive space planner on a mission to help people create conscious, beautiful and functional spaces. She’s the real deal! I released my newest YouTube video in which Dany and I walk you through how to declutter and organize your wardrobe. She offers tips to make the process simple, effective and lasting. She reminds us to ask whether things are relevant to this next phase of your life and how to create a space that enhances your truest self. She allowed me to SIMPLIFY but also keep my home really beautiful and really inspiring.

The products you use

In a consumer industry, it’s SO easy to get caught up in the latest face masks, serums, hair care and beauty products. Everything is the latest and greatest, vegan, natural, organic, radiant, on and on and on. How much are you paying attention to the products you use and the things you buy? Becoming a conscious consumer and mindfully using the products you put on your skin or in your home can dramatically elevate your life. With two kiddos and a little babe, it’s so important that everything in my home is non-toxic and naturally-based so I don’t have to worry about my kids getting into something unsafe for their little bodies.

Your relationships and social circle

This is big enough to demand a post of its own, but the people around you contribute to clutter as well. Like moons in orbit, their energy and ours create a push-pull effect that can be either positive or negative. Remember, the purpose of clearing clutter is to free your mind of everything that depletes it and ensure that only the uplifting remains. There are people who make us feel high vibe every day, but there are also people who stay in our lives and inhibit our growth because we don’t commit the time or energy to remove their toxicity. Consider the circles you keep and protect yourself from those who make you feel inadequate, limit you, or who extinguish your flame.

Digital detox

This is 2019, so when we talk about social circles, we must consider those that exist in the digital world. Phones, computers, and other electronic devices can be just as cluttered as our physical spaces - if not more. Do you have dozens of apps running simultaneously? Are there thousands of photos and videos from that party you went to months ago and have all but completely forgotten? Freeing up your digital space can improve your mental wellness while using your devices and has the extra benefit of boosting their performance and longevity.

Cleansing is more powerful than people realize. When there is no space for energy to move and flow, things in your life feel as though they are at a standstill. You carry a sense of heaviness with you.  Magic happens as you clear out the clutter that has been weighing you down mentally, physically and emotionally.

Reflections From The Nourish Your Soul Day Retreat

This year is about falling more in love with the life I have created and embracing my community. It’s amazing to see what you can create when you decide to open up and show up, 100%. Our one day Nourish Your Soul retreat was an example of the magic we can create in when we decide to commit to ourselves and embrace what makes us authentically unique.

So many magical souls joined up on our Nourish Your Soul day retreat in Venice. A day full of yoga, dance, heart-opening workshops, nourishing food, superfoods and so much more was just the tip of the joy, beauty and radiant presence we all experienced.

I’m amazed by how quickly we were all able to drop IN and get to work.  We started our day with delicious superfood coffee with Chameleon Cold Brew and Cacao Magic to elevate us into a more energetic headspace. We danced, moved, shook, laugh, cried, hugged and held space for one another. Flow kept us hydrated all day! We experienced a magical sound bath by Hayley Rose (@hayleyro) and wrote what word we wanted to represent from here on out.

We had delicious and nourishing vegan Mexican food from Tocaya Organica. After a HIIT workout to get us sweating and moving we enjoyed a soothing skin care moment with Boscia matcha face masks. SO healing!

After a mid-afternoon Berry Bliss smoothie, we discovered how much more similar we are than different and discovered the power in vulnerability. We came together as a group and decided to full drop in and remain present. We all took home a super amazing gift bag to remind us of the beauty we experienced and empower us through the rest of the days, weeks and month ahead.

Thank you to all our gift bag sponsors and if you haven’t checked out these brands - please, please do so!

Unpopular Opinion: Choosing Moderation Over Sobriety

It’s not new to say that our society revolves around drinking and birthday parties, holidays, celebrations, heck, the weekend are all implied to include alcohol consumption. It’s why so many in our wellness community looking to live a “high vibe life” decide to choose sobriety over substances. I attended a beautiful panel with some of my closet friends all about alcohol and choosing sobriety—it got me thinking.

It went deep and offered a great starting point for this conversation. A conversation like many in this space is saturated with the shoulds and should not’s. Like celery juice, matcha lattes, intermittent fasting, and even superfoods I believe there is a time, a place and a balance to it all.

Which is why I choose conscious consumption over sobriety. Why, you ask?

I will say that I know many who choose to live a sober life and their lives are equally abundant, happy and loving. It’s true that society as a whole shouldn’t be alcohol-focused and the more conversations we have about sobriety the more we create a positive change. The more we’ll feel a release from societal pressures to choose alcohol or drugs because it’s what everyone else is doing. Instead, that choice will come back to our control. To following our intuition.

But, here it is. I’m against complete sobriety.

To preach sobriety could have a negative effect. It stigmatizes everyone who drinks a glass of wine at a family dinner or smokes a bit of marijuana to mellow out in the evenings are not living up to their fullest potential, are not living a life of bliss, of light and of profound love.

I find substances have a time and a place. We drink wine on Shabbat, for Passover and other holidays + celebrations. I use alcohol and drugs to enhance the intention behind it whether that’s to love what life has given me, deepen the connection with my husband or celebrate the joy and support I have in all my sisters.

It’s when drinking is used as a crutch to hide deeper issues that it becomes a problem. It’s when you depend on alcohol or drugs to numb whatever you’re afraid to confront. Once you’ve done the work, dug in, brought awareness to all that’s holding you back, and released it from your life then the balance can be restored and you can rely on your inner-knowing to use substances for connection and for celebration.

How can you begin to live a life of moderation rather than total abstinence?

Anything can be toxic and considered “poison” if used excessively and used to hide away from whatever is going on below the surface. This is the same for all the considerably “healthy” activities. The key is to use any substance or any experience with intent.

If you’re INTENTIONAL, the mechanisms in your brain will send messages to your operating system so the substances used will connect rather than disconnect. Any substance done with the intent behind it can be ceremonial - cacao, ashwagandha, MDMA, or psychotropic substances, to name a few - have been used in healing and grounding ceremonies for years. I use MDMA to deepen my connection with my husband and cacao is commonly used in heart-opening ceremonies and to deepen meditations. It’s using them for a PURPOSE, not a distraction.

The use of alcohol and drugs in this form will sustain all the magic and joy of the experience. Our minds and bodies are untapped and restrained so much of the day, using drugs and alcohol to only enhance the human body experience and expand the realm of possibilities in this universe is magic.

If you find yourself wanting to be sober look into the WHY. Is there fear? Anxiety over the loss of control? This is where there the healing and growth work is begging to be done.

Abstinence isn’t the only answer!! If you want another option, check out The Abstinence Myth by Adi that offers an entirely new perspective to actually heal from abuse and addiction rather than numbing out and pushing it away.

Instead of choosing sobriety while you do the deep work within, experiment with being “sober curious.” In the IGNTD Recovery Secrets podcast, Adi connected with Ruby Warrington all about her new book, Sober Curious and her approach to going alcohol-free that is much more forgiving and empowering. Listen here!!

Remember loves, life isn’t all that serious. Enjoy it. Embrace it. Soak up every moment as they come. As long as you show up to yourself entirely you'll already be a more present, powerful and captivating soul.
