Cultivating Positive Energy + Your Most Beautiful Life
The fuller my life has become, the more I realize that my energy is one of my most valuable resources. It is the one thing I absolutely need in order to be an attentive mother, to create a loving relationship with my husband, to be present for my friends, to run a successful business, and to be an active part of my community. I do my best to optimize my physical energy by nourishing my body with healthy food, staying active and strong, and getting plenty of sleep, but I have also learned how important it is to attend to my mental and emotional energies as well.
It can be easy to forget about this second part, especially at this time of year, when life seems to move at lightning speed and to-do lists grow longer, but being mindful of where we focus our energy is one of the biggest keys to manifesting your very best self and life. There is an ancient Hawaiian proverb that says, “energy goes where attention flows” and I have experienced this truth again and again in my life. When I invest my time and energy in things that truly feed my soul and focus on positive, loving thoughts, I find that exciting opportunities begin to emerge, inspiring people appear at just the right times, and life seems to unfold in the most blissful way. On the other hand, the days that my thoughts are not beautiful and loving usually don’t turn out the way that I hope. I know for a fact that I’m sending out negative energy and attracting darkness when weird things start to happen.
You might notice this in your own life, too. Pay attention to your thoughts and feelings and then see if they might be affecting who and what you are attracting in your life. Who do you smile at or who smiles at you as you walk down the street? When you go to the grocery store, to FedEx, to work, what energy are you putting out in the universe and what energy seems to be coming your way? You might be surprised by how much they mirror one another.
If you find that you are sending out or receiving negative, frazzled, or unpleasant energy, you may want to conduct an energy inventory in your life. As you go through your day, ask yourself how different people, circumstances, or thoughts alter your energy. When you wake up in the morning, what are the first thoughts that enter your mind and how do they make you feel about your upcoming day? When you spend time with a friend, do you leave feeling lifted or drained? As you consider your schedule, do the agenda items inspire positive or negative feelings? When you are falling asleep, how do you feel? Centering practices like meditation and yoga can help you become more present. As you tune in to your internal experience, it can become a reliable compass that will point you towards that places where you want to direct your energy and away from the places where you do not.
Since our energy is not unbounded, I try to be very thoughtful about where I invest the energy that I have to share. I don’t waste it on stress or drama, people or relationships that leave me depleted, or anything else that may drain and negatively impact my energy. Instead I invest it in the people and pursuits that I want to flourish. I preserve my energy for my loved ones, my children, my best friends, my parents, my clients, my husband + people I meet in my community. I stay clear about my feelings, share them with the people around me, express my needs, and set boundaries so that I can maintain my very best and most positive energy. As I channel that energy into all of the things I am passionate about, I see it come back to me in a life that is filled with abundant happiness, beauty, and ease.
How do you stay aware of your own energy? What do you do to cultivate abundant positive energy and manifest your most blissful life? Please join in the conversation by sharing your thoughts on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram!

thank you, Des. That is exactly what I hope for when I write… to create community and a safe place for us all to go, to be reminded of who we TRULY are. xoxo
I love you <3 You’re posts really reach out to me, not just because you’ve been in my life for years, but because life can put you in a place where you forget to think about these things or you’re too busy with the to-do lists and daily tasks and when I see your posts, they remind me to shift my focus and they are so on-point! Thank you, Soph :)
